NewRetex reduces costs and transportation frequency by compacting textiles with a horizontal baler

Needed a compaction solution to optimize logistics

NewRetex is a Danish company that collects and sorts textile waste for processing and recycling. They now use a Mil-tek E819 baler to compress the textile waste, reducing its volume by 75%. This simplifies storage, significantly lowers transportation costs, and reduces the company’s CO2 footprint.

Recycling textile waste

The textile industry is one of the most environmentally damaging industries in the world. Textile waste poses a significant challenge for recycling, as the material often has low value before being refined.

NewRetex paving the way for a more sustainable industry
Danish company NewRetex is leading the way in addressing this challenge. The company collects textiles from municipalities, laundries, manufacturers, and retailers of various textile products, putting them through a thorough sorting process. From NewRetex, the textiles are sent for recycling, where they can be transformed into new fabrics and yarns.

The challenge: Effectively compacting the sorted textiles

NewRetex operates with an exceptionally efficient sorting system.

Upon arrival, textiles are registered, manually pre-sorted, and then processed through an advanced automated sorting system. Using sensors and robotics, the system analyzes color, size, and material composition, enabling precise sorting into specific categories, such as dark polyester or light cotton.

This meticulous classification maximizes the number of textiles that can be recycled.

However, NewRetex faced a challenge: Uncompressed textiles take up a lot of space. This meant that logistics made up a large part of their costs, as they couldn’t fit much on each truck when transporting the textiles to recycling facilities. They needed a solution to compress the textiles, so they could streamline transportation and reduce expenses.

Installation of a horizontal baler from Mil-tek

After consulting with Mil-tek, NewRetex chose our E819 horizontal baler for textile compaction for the following reasons:

  • High capacity for efficiently handling large amounts of textile waste.
  • Compact design, as NewRetex needed a space-saving solution.
  • Continuous filling and automatic start for seamless operation.
  • Electric motor, eliminating the risk of oil contamination on textiles, unlike hydraulic machines.
  • Competitive pricing, making the decision even easier.

1:4 compression and a more cost-effective value chain

It has been a year and a half since the E819 was installed at NewRetex.

Today, the baler is an integrated part of the workflow, where textiles are transported via a conveyor belt directly into the machine for compression.

The textiles are compressed with a volume reduction of one-fourth – 75% – allowing for the transport of larger material quantities, making the value chain more cost-effective.

At the same time, CO2 emissions are significantly reduced by decreasing the number of transport trips to recycling facilities!

2,000 bales of textiles – NewRetex drives a greener industry

In just a year and a half, NewRetex has compressed approximately 2,000 bales of finely sorted textiles, ready for recycling.

The implementation of the baler has significantly optimized operations – the machine runs smoothly and has proven to be a valuable investment.

The E819 continues to play a key role in NewRetex’s mission to make the textile industry more sustainable.
